Don't Expect to see Rodgers in the Preseason

For all you Aaron Rodgers fans, or haters. Don't expect the star quarterback to return to the field until the regular season.

The New York Jets are being cautious with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the preseason.

According to SNY, head coach Robert Saleh stated that Rodgers will sit out the first two preseason games. The team has not determined whether Rodgers will participate in the third and final preseason game, but Saleh expressed skepticism about it.

"My instinct is no," he told reporters Tuesday.

Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury during his first game with the Jets in the 2023 season opener against the Buffalo Bills and was sidelined for the rest of the season. Before training camp in July, he mentioned that his Achilles was in good condition and had felt strong by the end of the previous year.

The four-time NFL MVP appeared in one game during the 2023 preseason, where he completed 5 of 8 passes for 47 yards and scored a touchdown.

A fully recovered Rodgers is essential for the Jets' hopes of ending their 13-year postseason drought, the longest active streak in the league. The team made significant acquisitions for their offensive line to provide protection for Rodgers, including drafting tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round and signing veterans Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, and John Simpson in free agency. Additionally, the team added wide receiver Mike Williams and quarterback Tyrod Taylor to support Rodgers as backups.

Rodgers threw for 3,695 yards with 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 91.1 passer rating during his last full season with the Green Bay Packers in 2022.

The Jets open their 2024 regular season on Sept. 9 on Monday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.
