Steelers' Cam Sutton suspended

The NFL has suspended Cam Sutton, a safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, for the first eight games of the 2024 season due to a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

The decision was announced by the league on Monday. Sutton will not receive any payment during his suspension and is eligible to seek reinstatement on October 29. The suspension is a result of Sutton's involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident in Florida in March.

Sutton later turned himself into authorities and participated in a pretrial diversion program in April after the charges were reduced from a felony to misdemeanor battery. As part of his agreement with prosecutors, Sutton was required to undergo a mental health evaluation.

The NFL did its own investigation into the incident, leading to the suspension.

The Detroit Lions released Sutton immediately after an arrest warrant was issued. He then joined the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he played for the first six seasons in the league from 2017-22.

Sutton said the day he signed with the Steelers, "Adversity strikes everyone in life. It's all about how you handle it, how you go through those phases, and just knowing who you are individually — not letting someone else dim your light."

In June, the Steelers signed Sutton to a one-year deal. He participated in organized team activities and minicamp but declined to discuss the details of his arrest or any potential punishment that the NFL could impose if it finds he violated the league's personal conduct policy.
